An Indiana Agent With No Legal Platform Attached

No Tier Changes the Number, and That Counts

Rocket Lawyer asks $125 a year for registered agent service, and it asks $125 whether you hold a membership, which membership you hold, or no membership at all. We hunted for an introductory rate that expires later and there is not one. In a category where the interesting information usually hides in year two, a company that quotes one figure and then keeps it deserves the credit, and we are happy to hand it over.

Buying a Platform to Fill One Field

Our reservation is about shape rather than honesty. Rocket Lawyer's business is a legal platform: contract templates, e-signature, questions you can put to an attorney, a subscription designed to be opened often. Agent service is one item on a wide menu, and for a company that genuinely lives inside that platform the bundle makes sense and the $125 is well spent.

The other kind of buyer turns up constantly here. An owner-operated LLC whose operating agreement was signed years ago, and whose tax work already sits with somebody competent, takes one thing from a legal platform: an Indiana address where a process server can hand over a summons. Nothing is being overcharged in that scenario. A larger product is simply being sold with the piece you wanted stapled to the front of it.

It helps to see how narrow the state's actual specification is. Indiana wants a physical street address inside its borders, staffed during ordinary business hours, receiving service of process and mail from the Secretary of State. Post office boxes fail that test outright, which is the only real filter the state applies. There is nothing else in the job description for a bigger subscription to satisfy.

That last row cuts in both directions, deliberately. If the templates and the attorney access earn their keep in how you operate, then buying from Rocket Lawyer is the right call and this page has just talked itself out of an order. If you will not open them, twenty-six dollars a year is rent on shelving you never approach.

What the $99 Includes

Same-day scanning of anything a process server delivers to our Indiana office. A renewal invoice that reads $99 exactly like the first one did. One service at checkout with nothing bolted on. Our street address in the agent field of your public filings instead of your own. Ordinary business mail scanned on request at $15 an item, priced here rather than discovered later.

Cheapest in the state is a claim we leave alone. BetterLegal advertises $90 a year and that figure is genuine. Ours belongs in the lowest band of Indiana rates rather than at the very bottom of it.

Switching From Rocket Lawyer in Indiana Without Cancelling Anything

Two systems are involved and they do not talk to each other. One is Indiana's entity record, which says who your agent is. The other is a subscription you pay a private company for. Changing the first does not close the second, and closing the second does not change the first, which is why owners who want to keep the platform can move the agent line on its own and lose nothing.

Indiana's side runs on State Form 56367, the state's change of agent instrument, which the Business Services Division processes. File it online through INBiz or send the paper version. The fee is zero on both routes, and the form carries the words NO FILING FEE across its face so there is no ambiguity to resolve. Posted rather than filed online, it travels to the division's counter at 302 West Washington Street, Room E-018, in Indianapolis.

Three steps, in this order. Appoint the incoming agent, because the statement asks for a name and an Indiana street address and cannot be completed truthfully without them. File the change, which writes the new appointment into the record in the same motion that releases the old one, so the agent line is never blank. Confirm on your entity record that the new name has posted. Whether you keep, downgrade, or cancel the Rocket Lawyer membership afterward is a decision on your own calendar, and the state has no interest in it either way.
